It is Event Time! This week we are taking a second to remind everyone of the many great events going on in the Grand Lake area! There is always something fun to do when you’re around the Grand Lake, whether it’s going to fishing, boating, or sunbathing on the beach, there is something for everyone. Now, without further delay, here is what is going on this month around the Grand Lake!
75th Birthday Event!

You only turn 75 once! Mark your calendars now and plan to help GRDA celebrate the 75th birthday of Pensacola Dam and Grand Lake!
On Friday, August 7 at the GRDA Ecosystems and Education Center in Langley, there will be cake, Cherry Berry frozen yogurt and historical displays to help recognize this very special milestone in the dam’s history. The event starts at 7PM, and the public is invited to take part. After the party, plan to head down to the Grand Cherokee Golf Course (below the dam) to catch a free outdoor movie, courtesy of the Oklahoma Tourism and Recreation Department. There will be popcorn and drinks available, but bring blankets and/or chairs. Then, on Saturday, August 8, several lake area businesses and organizations will continue the celebration on the lake, with a “Woodstock on the Water” raft up/concert on the beach at the Disney State Park, on the east end of the Pensacola Dam. The show is set to begin at 11AM with Travis Kidd Band, Kirkland Field, Bootlegger’s Union, Reverse Reaction, Jim Sweeney and Chris Campbell all taking the stage. Other events throughout the day include a classic boat parade, a ski/wake-board/surf event, rock climbers and more.

The Great Grand Bobber Drop August 8th, 2015
Ladies and gentlemen, the Great Grand Bobble Drop returns to Grand Lake on Saturday, August 8th! For those of you unfamiliar with the event, bobbers will be dropped into the Honey Creek, Sailboat Bridge, Shangri-La, and Elk River areas. When you retrieve a bobber and turn them into the Grand Lake Sport Center in Downtown Grove or at other official claim sites you will win one of hundreds of prizes! All prizes have been donated by local Grand Lake area merchants and business owners!

Travis Kidd is an Oklahoma native, from Tulsa and an award winning singer/songwriter. Influenced by the sound of the “southern rock” and “roots rock” movement of the 1970′s. Travis acknowledges the guitar greats of the 1970′s & 80′s as a major part of his sound, as well as American folk and classic country music. This combination, along with a rich musical upbringing, helped generate the truly distinctive sound that is Travis Kidd.

79th Annual Will Rogers Memorial Rodeo

American Legion Rodeo Grounds, Vinita
Step right up to see the 79th Annual Will Rogers Memorial Rodeo! The Rodeo Parade features over 100 entries and 1000 participants, and winds through downtown Vinita and Route 66. Following the Parade is the All Settlers Day, where you can come renew your old acquaintances and make some new ones, while listening to the live entertainment. You may even win door prizes. And, of course, the Rodeo follows each evening and is one of the oldest in Oklahoma.
